This model was built by Ralph W. Preston over a period of 13 years, consuming about 8,000 hours. The bottle, of Corning's Pyrexä, has a capacity of 72 liters (about 19 US gallons) and has a diameter of 22 inches.

The model of the Charles W. Morgan ship was purchased by The German Technical Museum in Berlin, for an undisclosed sum [formerly the Museum for Transportation and Technology]. The model is insured for slightly under $80,000 (US). It has 11 figurines, 7 whaleboats, and a full suit of sails.
